Sounds like she has dementia. The corner thing is a classic, my old dog did this. It is just like with Alzheimers in people. Duncan (my dog) also became totally food obsessed and would whine continually, and eventually lost control of his bladder as well as becoming emaciated no matter how much he ate. He was 18 years old.
I suppose we never grew to dislike him because we had so many years of love and fun until his decline. Just try to think of her as the equivalent of an old lady who needs care - she can't help it. I'm so glad you are keeping her well, you are very good people.

I had a shih tzu who was an amazing dog for the first 13 years of his life. He also got cataracts and was pretty limited on what he could see. Then he started to lose his hearing. You could scream his name while standing right next to him and he would not even move. However, there were somethings he would respond to for a little while so I started to think he was ignoring me. Which was possible. Shih tzus dont care about a lot! However, one night at my mom and dads house, he ran into their lab and he attacked Louie, my shih tzu. Louie ended up losing an eye over the deal.
After he lost his eye, he basically had no zest for life. His quality of life was ok. But he kind of went into "sharking" mode as well. It was amazing that a blind-deaf dog could find a dorito I accidentally dropped yesterday underneath the couch. He also did the leg scratching thing, just constantly if he knew you had food. And then once you were done, he would go back to the place he came from and take a 20 hour nap. (Not really 20 hours, but it seemed like it sometimes!)
It makes me wonder if since his other senses went, his sense of smell became that much more prominent.
Sadly, I had to put Louie to sleep a few months ago. But he lived to be 17, which I would say was a pretty good run at it!

I feel the same way about our dog. My husband rescued him before we met, but he works 60+ hours a week, and never took the time to train him properly. So the dog poops and pees wherever he likes, and is aggressive with the kids and the cat. He barks at everything, and I can hardly walk him because he pulls so hard. I'm 6 months pregnant and he pulled me down the stair case last week, and I sprained my ankle.

Under no circumstances would I ever harm the dog, or mistreat him, but I seriously can't stand him. It's so bad it's almost become a deal breaker in my marriage.

Nice to know it's not just us.

Coco has been trying to be a little more like a family dog than a sleeping-sharking-excreting machine of late. It's nice when it's obvious she's hanging around for the companionship rather than just putting up with the petting while she tried to figure out if you have food. Dunno what changed. She still drives us nuts but at least now there are moments.

Your not alone, but atleast you have an excuse. we have a young healthy relitivly well behaved dog that i simply can not stand to be around. I don't have a good reason why. As a fellow animal lover i have homed and befriended 3 cats a bearded dragon with a missing leg, an 11 year old never been house broken daschund, and that forsaken chihuahua. all in a two bedroom apartment. I truly hate that dog. i would never send it to the pound or mistreat it in any way but i cant stand to look at it. my husband and daughter both love it and it is a "good" dog. I also feel like a monster. but i do wish the dog would just disapear.

just to drive the point home -- we aren't going to do anything bad to coco. i would never put her in a situation where her quality of life is poor. she has it good here. she would have a better life at my mom's house, but there are several sets of stairs, and she can't navigate stairs (try as she might to get up ours so she can eat the cat food and poo).

another thing of note -- grey and bronte have never liked coco. mike and i only recently admitted to not liking her (and felt like the biggest jerks on the planet for feeling this way).

sigh.
